Core Values

I believe that being a lawyer should not be treated as a simple job, and the only worthwhile way to pursue this career path is to treat it as a vocation. I am, however, aware that the so-called 'ethos' of the lawyer has become a trite expression and has lost meaning in many respects.

Nevertheless, let me attempt to convince the law-seeking reader that being a lawyer is still a true profession and that certain principles must be of paramount importance during its practice.

#1

A Lawyer Is Not Primarily Concerned with Law, but with People

It may come as a surprise that I am not first highlighting the fact that I graduated summa cum laude from university or list the law firms and areas of law in which I have gained many years of experience.

Instead, I would like to emphasize to the reader that written law is, by its very nature, applied by people who are quite subjective (and in some cases, very biased) in their thinking. Accordingly, in my experience, it is of the utmost importance that a lawyer carries out their work not only with an awareness of the 'law' also taking into consideration of the character and personality of the investigator, prosecutor, or judge involved, and with due regard for the information gained from this observation.

#2

Specialized Knowledge and Practical Skills

Of course, the above is of no use if personalized, decisive action is not combined with a comprehensive knowledge of substantive law. I would also point out that Hungary (despite the introduction of the so-called limited precedent system) is fundamentally different from Anglo-Saxon legal systems, where legislation is based primarily on written law and not on cases built up over the centuries. Nonetheless, It also is essential in the context of Hungarian (and, as a member of the European Union, EU) law that the practitioner is familiar not only with the text of the law but also with the supplementary case law that further details its content.

In my work, therefore, in addition to written law, I always take into account the legal literature published by leading authorities in the field and as well as relevant judicial practices.

#3

There Are Cases Where There Is No Time for Procrastination

It is particularly common in larger firms to have to wait for days or even weeks to get a reply to an email, or to be able to reach the lawyer you want to speak to. For me, it is important that such a thing does not happen, as it is not only contrary to the client-centered approach I follow, but there are types of cases (including criminal cases or family law situations where a minor may be at risk) where the success or failure depends whether one takes immediate action. Accordingly, I am available to my clients at any time of the day or any day of the week, as I know from experience that there are acute legal problems that have to be addressed without delay.

Synthesis Between Large International Firms and Small Professional Workshops

During my mandatory internship at the university, I spent my apprenticeship in a typical "small law firm," but as a graduate, I started my career at an international law firm based in the capital with an extensive foreign client base. I then worked (and has been still working as an associate) for a medium-sized, reputable law firm specialized in criminal and family law.

Accordingly, I have experienced almost every segment of the spectrum open to lawyers in Hungary and have had the opportunity to adopt and apply in my practice the distinct advantages of each type of firm, (for example, the combination of the professional, Western-style, service-oriented approach of large international organizations with the highly client-focused, trust-based approach of smaller firms).
